[1] The Telegraph 2 Febr. 2013 Israel is said to be considering further attacks in Syria and Lebanon following the air strikes on a weapons convoy this week, and on Friday claimed “the entire axis of evil is coming apart“.

[2] HAARETZ 2 Febr. 2013 Israeli jets attacked several targets in Syria Tuesday night in addition to the Scientific Studies and Research Center in Jamarya, outside Damascus, Time Magazine reported Friday. “At least one to two additional targets were hit the same night,” a Western intelligence official indicated to Time, adding that Israel received a “green light” from the United States to carry out further attacks in the future. According to the report in Time, among the buildings destroyed in the attack on the Jamarya research center were “warehouses stocked with equipment necessary for the deployment of chemical and biological weapons.” The U.S. was “poised to carry out similar airstrikes around Aleppo if rebels threaten to take sites associated with weapons of mass destruction in that region,” an American intelligence official told Time.

[3] Panetta-barak[4] HAARETZ 2 Febr. 2013 Outgoing U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta accused Iran of an intensified campaign to destabilize the Middle East by smuggling anti-aircraft weapons to militant allies, The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday. Yemeni forces intercepted a ship on Jan. 23 carrying a large cache of weapons - including surface-to-air missiles - that U.S. officials suspect were being smuggled from Iran and destined for Yemeni insurgents.

[5] The Guardian 1 Febr. 2013The Syrian opposition has said it is ready for exploratory peace talks with the regime after gaining UN backing for its position that Bashar al-Assad himself “would have no role” in a transitional government.The developments served to increase the isolation of Russia which remains a staunch backer of the regime in Damascus, and has insisted that Assad stay in place through any future transition to democracy.
